What makes Pillarhouse International and their products better than their competitors?2025-05-14T16:28:04+01:00

Pillarhouse International have been producing high engineering standard products with a focus on innovation and cutting-edge development for over 40 years. This practice has led to Pillarhouse International holding several important patents that have been key to our continued success throughout the past four decades.

We originally pioneered the design and manufacture of specialist equipment for the coil winding and associated industries, such as the original PillarMAT skeining machine, which sold more than 750 units.

Producing our first production soldering system in 1984, we used this technology to grow throughout the 1980’s and develop the world’s first selective soldering machine in 1994. Over 2,250 of our selective soldering units have been sold since.

Key to the Pillarhouse International design philosophy is that no one machine can meet the strict production demands of all market sectors. Whether it be a handload machine or a fully automated in-line production system, the process cannot be compromised.

All Pillarhouse International machines offer the ability to monitor and control every function that affects the production process. Also, inherent to our principle, is that all machines should have the capability to accept upgradeable options/enhancements throughout their production life.

What are the cycle times, maximum board sizes and programming times of Pillarhouse International’s machines?2023-07-31T13:37:13+01:00

Maximum Board Sizes

  • Pilot – 330mm x 250mm
  • Jade MKII – 457mm x 508mm (larger size available upon request)
  • Jade MKIV – 508mm x 610mm
  • Jade Pro – 457mm x 508mm
  • Jade Prodex – 457mm x 508mm
  • Jade Handex – 457mm x 508mm
  • Fusion – 381mm x 430mm (larger size available upon request)
  • Synchrodex – 457mm x 610mm
  • Synchrodex Pro – 610mm x 610mm (optional size of 1200mm x 610mm)

Cycle and Programming Times

Programming and process throughput times are entirely dependant upon the number of solder positions, component style i.e., single pins or multi-pin connector etc., PCB design i.e., multi-layer, heavy ground plane, proximity of nearest surface mount position relevant to soldering point. These factors all impact upon throughput capability of our systems.

How flexible are Pillarhouse International’s machines in switching between products?2022-10-19T17:48:54+01:00

Our design criteria include providing maximum process flexibility via our universal, single point AP (all purpose) solder nozzle technology. Ability to switch product types with minimal operator intervention is a critical part of our design philosophy. Furthermore, we offer a range of advanced machine features which can be easily retrofittable, should production requirements dictate.

What customisation possibilities do Pillarhouse International offer on their machines?2022-10-19T17:48:38+01:00

Pillarhouse International offer a range of bespoke machine options including dedicated custom-built solder nozzle assemblies, and Widewave applications (up to 150mm). We also offer a range of specialist monitoring systems for both Drop-Jet and Ultrasonic fluxing, pre-heat methods, nitrogen usage etc. Our machines can also integrate with Factory Automation Systems.

What is the average lifespan of a Pillarhouse International machine?2022-10-19T17:48:21+01:00

Pillarhouse International are still supporting several machines that are more than 30 years of age. It is common for selective soldering machines built over 15 years ago to still be engaged in full production. Many of these have been used in 24/7 working environments.

Can Pillarhouse International’s selective soldering machines completely replace the traditional wave soldering machine?2022-10-19T17:47:57+01:00

Pillarhouse International offer a more cost-effective alternative to wave soldering. Wave solder machines tend to use far greater amounts of electricity and nitrogen and produce much greater amounts of waste (dross). Pillarhouse International do not aim to compete with higher throughput wave machines and recognise the advantages of the wave soldering approach to mass production. We do, however, offer a Widewave capability of up to 150mm with selected systems.

Additionally, Pillarhouse International offer a potential solution to the process issues often associated with wave solder technology, i.e., bridging and/or missed joints. Our unique AOI inspection package, with the ability to selectively rework specific joints, provides a cost-effective solution to this frequent problem. This package is available with all Pillarhouse International in-line selective soldering machinery. Find out more here.
